Football Tournament For Girls - U10 to U12 - 8th June 2008

This year saw the introduction of the first ever Sawtry Colts Girls Festival Of Football as part of the George Ruff Cup. More than 200 girls representing 27 teams at three age groups battled it out for the trophies on offer.

The day demonstrated why football in now the biggest participation sport for girls in the UK. The day produced a very high standard of football from all teams with lots of girls enjoying the summer sunshine.

The U10 age group trophy went to Woburn Lionesses, with Priory Parkside as runners up in a very exciting final which finished 1-0 to Woburn after extra time.

The U11 age group trophy went to Cambridge City, with Peterborough Diamonds as runners up in a exhilarating final.

The U12 age group produced a thrilling final between Linby Ladies and Bedford Girls which finished level before going into extra time. The Linby Ladies then kept their cool in a penalty shoot out to clinch the trophy.

Following the success of this years event it is now planned to make this an annual event and to make next years day even bigger and better with the addition of and U13 age group.

Can you please pass on our sincere thanks for last Sundays tournament, having great weather makes all the difference but many of our parents commented on how well organised the whole event was. We had a great day, hope to see you there next year.
