Match report from Sawtry Colts Vs March Rangers on 26 April 2008: Due to March Rangers players being a bit late the match did not kick off until 10:50, the mums and dads waited patiently and enjoyed the warm weather and tranquil village surroundings. The line up for the first 13 mins was Amy Martin in goal, Maddie Duthie and Calista Brix-Craig in defense, Jess Lilley and Katherine Hinton in mid field and Hannah Ainsworth and Nicole Stefanelli up front. For the first 9 mins March pushed to score a goal but Calista and Maddie worked well together to combat any goals. They both kicked the ball a long distance away from their end of the field. Katherine and Jess were relentless in their tackling of the March players in mid field. After 10 mins, the March Goal Keeper kicked the ball out hoping to reach one of her team but suddenly Hannah got the ball and scored a great goal. The crowd went wild it looked like the Sawtry girls were on their way to winning the game. After Hannah’s success Nicole had several good tries at scoring a goal but the ball would not go in. After 13 mins of the game Ellie Bishop, Sophie Balls and Grace Whitney-Fahey replaced Calista, Jess and Nicole. Five minutes later Amy made a cracking save which kept Sawtry in the lead. During the last few minutes of the first half, Grace made a final attempt to score. A very good first half, girls you worked well together, did not bunch up and passed the ball to each other. For the second half Calista, Jess and Nicole replaced Maddie, Katherine and Hannah. As usual Ellie did not give up trying to get the ball off the March players, she keeps going and going at them until she has won her little battle. After 5 mins into the second half Hannah nearly scored another goal, but it was not to be. Jess and Sophie played well in midfield and assisted Nicole and Grace in trying to score a goal. During the last ten minutes of the game Katherine took over from Amy. During these minutes Sophie had two shots at the goal but the ball was not going in. Then just as it was looking as if Sawtry was going to win March scored a goal. What a game, what a performance, well done girls you all played really well. The girl of the match was awarded to Nicole who also received trainee of the week. Final Score: Sawtry Colts 1 - 1 March Rangers.
