Match report from Sawtry Colts Vs Comberton Crusaders on 1 March 2008:

Super Seven Goal Thriller

The Sawtry Colts & Comberton Crusader Girls put in a super performance to provide the best game of football we have seen this season.

The Sawtry girls seem to have forgotten to get out of bed for the first ten minutes as Comberton pushed on and took a two goal lead and looked to be on top.

Katherine Hinton stepped into defence with Calista Brix-Craig and both got their act together after the second goal to dampen further attacks. Hannah Ainsworth and Sophie Godward worked well together to try to get control of the midfield battle and Nicole Stefanelli and Gemma Kirk plugged away and came back to help out the midfield through a scrappy first ten minutes.

Megan Purnell replaced Nicole up front after 10 minutes and it only took her 2 minutes to find herself on the edge of the box and struck the ball well to place it past the Comberton keeper. This then seemed to wave the smelling salts below the noses of the Sawtry Girls and bring them into their true form.

When Comberton did push up Amy Martin stood tall in on goal and made one fantastic save with her face and was quickly back on her feet and again ready for action.

The Sawtry Girls then pushed on and Gemma was in the thick of the action and playing some excellent ball through to Megan & Sophie who were find some space in the box.

Nicole re-joined the action in place of Gemma in the second half and Sawtry pushed more and more on the Comberton goal.

The girls continued to dig deep and it was on thirty minutes that Katherine got the goal she has rightly deserved this season and the Sawtry girls were back on level terms. This just made them work harder and the they pushed and pushed, the chances came and went before Sophie found herself in front of goal and poked the ball home for her sixth goal of the season.

A few minutes later Comberton hit Sawtry on the break and Amy made the save of the season to tip a dipping shot over the bar.

It was just unfortunate that we lost our concentration at the back in the last few minutes and conceded two sloppy goals to allow Comberton to come back for a 3-4 win.

But this will just make us more determined to paint a different picture on 15th March when we face Comberton again in our final game of this season.

Final Score: Sawtry Colts 3 - 4 Comberton Crusaders.
