Sawtry Colts Football Club are fully
committed to the development of the female game and are pioneering footballing
opportunities for girls in Cambridgeshire.
In November 2008 Sawtry Colts created their 'Girls Football Development
Centre', which was made possible because of generous funding from Produce
World in Yaxley, a local fresh produce supply company.
The first phase of the 'Girls Football Development Centre' was a 24-week
skills development course, which introduced girls from 4 to 8 years old to the
game in a dedicated girls only environment which was player centred with an
emphasis on enjoyment.
This first phase completed in May 2009 and as a direct result of the success of this project Sawtry Colts have now expanded their 'Girls Football Development Centre' into two squads.
The first squad is an U6 squad which allows girls in Reception and School Year
1 to take part in regular skill development sessions which develop the mass
motor skill which are required to play football. The squad participate in
regular FUNdimentals activities which are specifically designed to develop
ABCs (Agility, Balance, Co-Ordination & Speed). The girls also spend a minimum
of 80% of each session on basis ball work with every girls having a ball each
to ensure no boredom sets in.
The U8 squad will now form a team to play friendly games against other local
clubs with U8 girls squads and it is hoped that a local league will arrange a
non-competitive league in the 2009/2010 season. The U8 squad will work at
enhancing the basic skills they have learnt already and will now be introduced
to some basic football formations, to enable them to understand how a team
should work together.

All of our girls squads for the 2009/2010 season are currently seeking sponsorship for their playing kit and rain jackets.

Colts Football club offer girls from in or around Huntingdon, Alconbury,
Stilton, Oundle, Brampton, Godmanchester to play soccer in Cambridgeshire,
East Anglia. Youth football is an ideal recreational girls sport (We offer girls
soccer & girls football tournament). We take girls football seriously and
