Match report from Histon Hornets Vs Sawtry Colts on 17 November 2007:

Sawtry Girls Back On Winning Ways

Sawtry Colts U10 Girls got back to winning ways against Histon Hornets at Histon & Impington Recreation Ground, beating the Histon Girls 8-1.

The game started off very closely contested with Katherine Hinton & Hannah Ainsworth battling hard in midfield and Calista Brix-Craig and Hannah Vaughan supporting them in defence. Amy Martin stood firm in goal clearing up any loose balls.

Both teams had chances early on, but it was Nicole Stefanelli who broke the deadlock on 7 minutes with a firm strike to beat an unlucky keeper. Then on 10 minutes Louise Holland poked in the ball after the Histon goalkeeper was unlucky not to claim the ball in a goalmouth scramble. It was only a minute later that Girl of The Match Hannah Ainsworth play the ball through to Nicole, who claimed her second.

Sophie Godward and Megan Purnell joined the action after 13 minutes and it then only took another minute for Megan and Nicole to combine twice on 14 and 16 minutes to make it four for Nicole and 5 for Sawtry at half time.

Following the break Megan went through to claim her first goal of the game and then a well placed pass from Hannah A on 30 minutes was converted by Megan for her second goal. Ellie Bishop then joined the game and reinforced the defence and then on 34 Minutes Hannah A received the ball on the edge of the box and remained very composed to finish for her first, and very much deserved, goal of the season.

Histon kept battling away and never gave up hope and their efforts were rewarded on 36 minutes when a well struck shot made it 8-1. Then in the dying moments of the game Histon again broke well and it was only a determined run and immaculately timed last ditch tackle from Hannah V which allowed the ball to run into the safety of Amy’s arms.
