Match report from Comberton Crusaders Vs Sawtry Colts on 13 October 2007: Stalemate At Comberton The Sawtry Girls were held to a 2-2 draw against a very determined and well organised Comberton Crusaders side. The match started with Comberton applying early pressure when Hannah Vaughan and Olivia Gracey did well to try to keep the pressure off Amy Martin who made a string of important saves. Katherine Hinton & Louise Holland fought hard in midfield to try provide service to a patient Hannah Ainsworth and Nicole Stefanelli who were just waiting to pounce. On 8 minutes all the Sawtry arms were in the air as Nicole rattled the post with a solid strike, only to see the ball bounce across the goal to allow the Comberton defenders to clear the danger. A very closely matched midfield battled away until 13 minutes were up and on came Sophie Godward, Megan Purnell and Calista Brix-Craig. It then only took a minute for these fresh legs to make a difference, when Sophie struck the ball superbly from the edge of the box, past the helpless defence and goalkeeper to plant the ball in the far corner. The game then continued to half time with both sides producing some superb play with the score remaining at 1-0.
After the break the game continued to be very close, with some good football from both sides, until Sophie made it two on 33 minutes.
But the brave Comberton girls would not admit defeat and piled on the pressure pushing forwards. There efforts were rightly rewarded three minutes later when they brought the score back to 2-1.
Then as Comberton girls pushed again and a well struck clearance deflected off of a Comberton knee and flew into the far corner leaving Amy with no chance of saving.
Both teams then found their reserve tank to go all out for the final 4 minutes for a winner, but neither side were to be rewarded for their efforts and the score remained at 2-2.
A special mention must go to both sets of girls who all battled hard to create a very entertaining match for both sets of supporters.
